Memorial Day- Respect and "Grilladelphia" Freedom!

by Administrator 22. May 2009 00:23

I can't believe the start of summer is here!!! Here in NY the season has changed right on cue- which is great because i am writing a book on cues and have never thougt much about weather playing a role in prompting our business or personal lives. But ofcourse it does. This 80 degrees and sunny thing can make anyone forget just about anything.

But the one thing we should never loose sight of, never forget is that while Memorial Day weekend hopefully is and clearly should be a joyous family and friend filled start of the time of year most of us love most, it is not a holiday of joy. It is one of respect, rememberance and blessings. I always think about what my father told me regarding his WW2 Airforce reality- airman being shot down, even shot right next to him in his B-52. And, him even being shot down and obviously surviving- the proof is me being here writing!

Given the the two wars America is in, the many many young men and women having been killed since these wars began- for whatever reason (politics is too alive and well elsewhere to live in my Memorial Day blog!)- and in all likelyhood, so many more yet to give their lives, I can honestly say i have given nothing by way of what Memorial Day is all about. I have never been in the military, let alone in a combat zone.

But my friend and former agency associate Chris Henderson has and thank God he is home this Memorial Day to be with his family. Chris is more than a real talented Creative Director, he is a real talent as a human being. Honest, supportive, real and really funny. It's not hard, actually you would have to be an idiot, not to reflect on and respect the essence of Memorial Day after putting yourself for just a moment in Chris's shoes!

So let the grilling begin-be it where our Founding Father's started it all or where-ever your Memorial Day vacation, staycation or any other backyard you find yourself in. Just look up in the bright blue sky and say/think thanks to those already there for us!

Enjoy Memorial Day!

About Cliff

It's about 1 to 10 and one per day. No, not the scale, or the odds or even the prison sentence, but a different kind of measure… I have One year until my Ten year anniversary of surviving a near fatal heart attack. Given I made through rheumatic heart decease as a kid and have been a insulin dependent diabetic for years, it's a special time and there's no way I'm not going to celebrate just how special it is and how lucky I am!
