Fraternal Optimist!

by Administrator 21. March 2009 06:29

There is no "Brother's Day" or Sister's Day for that matter. But given i don't have a female sibling, i can only hope my son, being the loving and special person he is, looks to create one or celebrate his little sis. in his own way.

Given i do have three brothers, i do know something about this group. What i do know is i love them very much and have come to think of them not as brothers like when we were kids (the "mine" thing, the fighting thing, etc. things) but as people who share some of the same genetic and parental code. And that connection given whatever else has happened or will happen is as important as it gets. Not to think this is important is to not think of it at all. It would be like thinking Earth is not important as our "mother planet" in a universe of other galactic matter.  Source code, source influence(s) seem to emerge more important as you get further from the original source or as life would have it, the original source dies or get sickly. The planet analogy even holds true given our global warming and signs of aging and demise. Where and from whom we come from, will always matter!

My oldest brother John is very sick in San Francisco. He has been in the hospital for a few weeks, through the grace of God his health is looking positive. Through clearly the same bucket of grace, my youngest brother Hunter- a brother from a different mother- who lives in NYC will be in San Fran on business this week. Hunter who is about 20 years younger than John and is incredibly successful in technology at IBM. If John was born 20 years later, we (his brother's) truly believe he too would be a very successful technologist given his large math gifts. Hunter's b-day is later in the week. He is giving all of his brothers and our father an early birthday present by visiting John today (oh, you give the birthday person the gift...sometimes with brother's it is different).

I don't exactly know what role my older brother Eric had in this 3000 mile amazing grace today. But i bet it was big. It always is with Eric. Eric is the big brother who always is big in big situations. Nobody, no brother is perfect. But Eric is always there with both feet, let alone his whole body to help in any way he believes will help his family. Especially, help his family through tough times. I know this to be true through my own personal experience- my bio on this site tells this to be so.

So on this Sunday morning, with one brother flying to help and see another across the country and yet another brother helping another cross town make the most of the current economic realities, i for one am blessed to be part of a pretty special brotherhood. And, i know, i am not alone.

If nothing else, let today, tomorrow or even the next day, be "I Hugged (if need be via email or phone) My Brother/Sister Day!"

Here's Eric, son Matt, frquent flyer Hunter and beneficiary me at my b-day dinner this past summer- yes, i offered up the official uniform!

About Cliff

It's about 1 to 10 and one per day. No, not the scale, or the odds or even the prison sentence, but a different kind of measure… I have One year until my Ten year anniversary of surviving a near fatal heart attack. Given I made through rheumatic heart decease as a kid and have been a insulin dependent diabetic for years, it's a special time and there's no way I'm not going to celebrate just how special it is and how lucky I am!
